Tourist health risk avoidance behaviour: an exploratory study from China

As key agents of travel, tourists hold primary responsibility for safeguarding their health during journeys. Avoiding health risks is a critical concern, and examining tourists’ health-related behaviours carries substantial practical value, especially in the light of the global pandemic. This study employs grounded theory, using semi-structured in-depth interviews and online travelogue for data collection, to construct a dual-path model of health-risk avoidance that identifies three structural dimensions – stimulus avoidance, spatial-temporal transformation, and enhancement of certainty – and two distinct decision-making patterns: analytical-thinking avoidance and intuitive-thinking avoidance.
