Commercial Aspects of the Use of Nematodes as Bioindicators
This chapter discusses the commercial use of soil and aquatic nematodes for the assessment of prevailing environmental conditions for a range of client sectors, including manufacturing industries, agriculture, regulatory bodies/government authorities and the legal profession. A background to the development of the commercial nematology market and the establishment of professional nematologists in the commercial, rather than academic, realm is outlined. The ecological monitoring and assessment requirements of a range of commercial client groups are reviewed. Précis of standard and non-standard survey approaches and analytical protocols are presented, and the benefits and constraints of such studies are considered.
