Healthcare tourism has become a worldwide system influenced by medical evolution, digital technologies and cross-border policy systems. This chapter takes a transdisciplinary approach to explain the economic, cultural, psychological, and technological factors that are pushing patients to go abroad for treatment. It looks back at the historical development of medical travel, the role of telemedicine and AI in decision making and the expansion of specialised destinations. The chapter further draws attention to risks in terms of ethics, legal accountability and sustainability and compares governance models among countries. It ends with some future directions for responsible, patient-centered global healthcare mobility
